U+FDFC was added in Unicode version 3.2 in 2002. It belongs to the block U+FB50 para U+FDFF Arabic Presentation Forms-A in the U+0000 para U+FFFF Basic Multilingual Plane.

This character is a Símbolo monetario and is mainly used in the Arabic script.

The glyph is an isolated composition of the glyphs Arabic Letter Reh, Arabic Letter Farsi Yeh, Arabic Letter Alef, Arabic Letter Lam. It has no designated width in East Asian texts. In bidirectional text it is written as Arabic letter from right to left. When changing direction it is not mirrored. U+FDFC prohibits a line break before it, if it follows a number. The glyph can be confused with one other glyph.

The CLDR project calls this character “rial” for use in screen reading software. It assigns these additional labels, e.g. for search in emoji pickers: moneda.
