U+22EF Midline Horizontal Ellipsis

U+22EF was added in Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. It belongs to the block U+2200 para U+22FF Mathematical Operators in the U+0000 para U+FFFF Basic Multilingual Plane.

This character is a Puntuación matemática and is commonly used, that is, in no specific script.

The glyph is not a composition. It has no designated width in East Asian texts. In bidirectional text it acts as Other Neutral. When changing direction it is not mirrored. U+22EF allows only line breaks, if an additional space character is present. The glyph can be confused with one other glyph.

The CLDR project calls this character “puntos suspensivos horizontales” for use in screen reading software. It assigns these additional labels, e.g. for search in emoji pickers: elipsis.

El Wikipedia tiene la siguiente información acerca de este punto de código:

The ellipsis (, plural ellipses; from Ancient Greek: ἔλλειψις, élleipsis, lit.'leave out'), rendered ..., alternatively described as suspension points: 19 /dots, points: 19 /periods of ellipsis, or ellipsis points: 19 , or colloquially, dot-dot-dot, is a punctuation mark consisting of a series of three dots. An ellipsis can be used in many ways, including for intentional omission of text or to imply a concept without using words.

Opinions differ on how to render an ellipsis in printed material and are to some extent based on the technology used for rendering. Many style guides are still influenced by the typewriter. According to The Chicago Manual of Style, it should consist of three periods, each separated from its neighbor by a non-breaking space: . . .. According to the AP Stylebook, the periods should be rendered with no space between them: .... A third option – available in electronic text – is to use the precomposed character U+2026 HORIZONTAL ELLIPSIS.
